Angelina College sweeps KC men, women

KILGORE, TX -- The Angelina College Roadrunners and Lady Roadrunners swept the Kilgore College men and women Dec. 9 at Masters Gymnasium in two very close contests.

Angelina 89, KC Men 84 (OT)

In a game with 14 lead changes, the Roadrunners made just enough shots down the stretch to preserve an 89-84 overtime victory over the KC men.

Angelina's Corinthian Ramsey led all scorers with 38 points.  He was 6-of-10 from behind the three point line and 10-of-11 from the free throw line. The Roadrunners had two other players with double figures, Kahari Beaufort with 20 points and Trent Brinkley with 14.

KC had four players in double figures.  Jaleel Wheeler and Cheikh Diallo each had 19 points, Ndene Gueye scored 13 and Antonio Moore ended up with 12.

With the loss, KC drops to 11-2 overall and 2-2 in Region XIV play.

Their next game is 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, versus Houston Southwest Community College.  They will resume conference play Jan. 2 at Blinn College in Brenham.

Angelina Women 67, Lady Rangers 64

It just wasn't the Lady Rangers night shooting the ball.  They struggled most of the game to get shots to fall, going 0-of-20 from behind the three point line and shooting only 27 percent from the field.

The Lady Rangers clawed back from a 34-25 halftime deficit and got within one point, 65-64, with 40 seconds left in the contest, but just couldn't hit a shot to go ahead.

KC's Lauren Carroll led all scorers with 25 points.  Two other players were in double figures for the Lady Rangers with Dominique Thomas scoring 17 and Lyrik Williams scoring 10 points.  Thomas earned a double-double, adding an impressive 16 boards.

The Lady Rangers have one more game before the Christmas break Saturday versus Southwest Christian College.  Tipoff is 2 p.m. in Masters Gymnasium.

The KC women will resume conference play Jan. 6 in Brenham versus Blinn College.

The Lady Roadrunners were led in scoring by Ashley Cherry with 17 points.  Laneique Nealey earned a double-double for Angelina with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
