Hoberecht selected to participate in national basketball symposium Oct. 8-9

Kilgore College head men’s basketball coach Brian Hoberecht has been selected to participate in the inaugural TopConnect NJCAA Symposium set for Oct. 8-9.

The inaugural class of coaches includes 30 head men’s basketball coaches and 11 head women’s basketball coaches participating from across the nation.

Presenters for the symposium include many former junior college coaches now coaching at Division I schools.

Brian Hoberecht Boys’ Basketball Camp canceled due to COVID-19

The final decision was made today to cancel the 2020 Brian Hoberecht Boys’ Basketball Camp at Kilgore College to eliminate the risk of spreading COVID-19.

“There has been a lot of change in the NJCAA at the national level and those are driving local decisions,” said Brian Hoberecht, KC basketball coach.

“It’s unfortunate, but it’s definitely the right thing to do to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved.”

The camp, open to boys ages 5-17, was scheduled for July 13-16.

Ten basketball players earn All-Academic, All-Region, All-Conference honors

Ten Kilgore College basketball players – five Lady Rangers and five Rangers – were honored with selections to the Region 14 All-Conference, All Region and All-Academic teams.

On the women’s side, Alba Garcia Camarena and Laraveun “Jazz” Randle were named to the All-Conference Academic Team; Ireneshia Johnson was named First Team All-Region and All-Conference; freshman Jada Hood was named First Team All-Conference; and freshman Sarah Matthews was named Honorable Mention All-Conference.

R14 TOURNAMENT: KC men face Lee College 8 p.m. Tuesday

The Kilgore College men's basketball team (21-8, 12-7 Region XIV) will face Lee College 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the first round of the 22020 Region XIV Basketball Tournament at Centenary College's Gold Dome in Shreveport.

KC wrapped up the regular season Feb. 26 with a 79-58 win ion the road against Paris Junior College.

The Rangers met Lee College (16-14, 7-12 Region XIV) once in the regular season, defeating the Rebels, 92-73, in Kilgore.

KC men rally, but lose in OT to Navarro

KILGORE, TX -- The Kilgore College men lost their first home game of the season Feb. 22 in an overtime thriller versus Navarro College, 75-70.

Led by Michael Thomas' 24 points in the second half alone, the Rangers rallied from 18 points down to force overtime.

It looked almost hopeless for KC with 14 minutes left in the game, trailing the Bulldogs 44-26, but the Rangers went on a 24-9 run to get within three points with 2:30 left in the game.

KC men win 20th game with defeat of Bossier Parish

KILGORE, TX -- Four players in double figures Feb. 15 paced the Kilgore College men for their 20th win of the season, defeating Bossier Parish Community College, 75-62, at Masters Gymnasium.

KC (20-6, 11-5 Region XIV) got an early lead and made 61 percent of its shots to keep BPCC (16-10, 9-7 Region XIV) playing catchup all night.

D'Rell Roberts led KC in scoring with 15 points, four assists and two steals.

Michael Thomas and Rodrigue Andela each scored 14 points.  Andela had four blocks and eight rebounds while Thomas had four assists and two steals.
