Certificate Program

The Pharmacy Technician program at KC provides students flexible, affordable classes to earn a certificate yielding job possibilities in drug stores, doctors’ offices and grocery store pharmacies.  According to U.S. Department of Labor statistics, “Employment of pharmacy technicians is projected to grow 12 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. Increased demand for prescription medications will lead to more demand for pharmaceutical services.”


Deadline to register for next class is Dec. 11, 2020:

The spring certification class is set for Jan. 25 to May 28, 2021.  Classes include:

PHRA 1001 - 64 hours
PHRA 1013 - 64 hours
PHRA 1005 - 80 hours
PHRA 1061 - 100 hours
Total: 16 weeks, 308 hours

308 hours, 16 weeks, $1,832
(includes insurance & initial exam fee)

(PHRA 1001: 64 hours; PHRA 1013: 64 hours; PHRA 1005: 80 hours; PHRA 1061: 100 hours)

Classroom and Online: Hybrid format (Must have computer access):

Spring Program: Jan. 25 to May 28, 2021
Registration deadline: Dec. 11, 2020
Paperwork deadline: Jan. 18, 2021
Classroom: Mon/Wed/Thurs, 5 to 9 p.m. for all 16 weeks

Students must complete all requirements successfully to be able to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Test. The Pharmacy Technician program at KC is now selecting applicants to enter the new Pharmacy Technician Program.


  • Tuition for the certificate program is $1,832 (plus textbooks)
  • Tuition includes fingerprinting once accepted into the program, $40 of uniform costs, tech in training fee, initial testing and certification fees.

Required textbooks:

  • The KC Bookstore is offering a bundled price of $231 for all required textbooks.

Background Checks:

For students in this course who may have a criminal background, please be advised that the background could keep you from being licensed by the State of Texas.  If you have a question about your background and licensure, please speak with your faculty member or the department chair. You also have the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the applicable licensing agency.
