About the program:

In order to meet the rising demand for trained personnel in the health care industry, Kilgore College offers Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) courses for fast-track training that produces successful graduates sought after for entry-level positions in the field.  The CNA program will provide the skills, knowledge and abilities essential to providing basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. You will learn about resident’s rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting and assisting residents in maintaining basic comfort and safety.

KC offers two programs for nursing assistants. One is a traditional CE program that is of 112 hours in length. The other is a 15 credit hour certificate program.

2021 Day Class Dates (7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday):

  • June 28 to Aug. 5, 2021

(NOTE: Clinical sites can be within a 45-mile radius of Longview.)

Certificate Program:

NOTE: For students who may have a criminal background, please be advised that the background could keep you from being licensed by the State of Texas.  If you have a question about your background and licensure, please speak with a faculty member or the department chair. You also have the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the applicable licensing agency.

Nursing Entrance Exam Review:

Nursing Entrance Exam Review (VNSG 1091, 18 Hours) is a focused review of concepts present in the Test of Essential Academic Skills or ATI TEAS. The ATI TEAS is the exam used for assessing a student’s preparedness for entering health science fields. Course topics include reading, English and language usage, mathematics and science.

Application Checklist - How to Apply and What is Required

1) Get Started

Background Check & Drug Test: Drug and Alcohol Testing Compliance Services (DATCS), $46. The DATCS form is located in the Nurse Assistant Registration Packet attached. Results will be emailed to the college. Must be completed no earlier than 30 days before the class you are attending starts.

Registration Form: The WDCE registration form is located in the Nurse Assistant Information Packet. The form may be scanned and faxed to 903-988-7543, scanned and emailed to or turned into the KC-Kilgore campus to Jennie Alcantar. Applicants must have clear background and drug screen results before payment can be submitted for classes.

2) Tuition, Fees & Textbooks

Total = $639.00 due a week before class begins, consists of following:

  • Tuition:  $309.00 and $190 classroom and clinical/skills. Nurse Aide classes are not eligible for Financial Aid.
  • Insurance: $15
  • State Exam Fee:  $125.00

3) Supplies, Immunizations & Physical Requirements

Supplies & uniform can be purchased at Scrubs Galore-N-More, 815 N. Fourth St. in Longview.

  • Gait belt/transfer belt
  • Stethoscope
  • Sphygmomanometer (blood pressure cuff, analog ONLY, no digital)
  • Uniform: White uniform with royal blue student apron, available at Scrubs Galore N More at 815 N.  Fourth St., Longview. Uniform is required the first class day. On the first class day, instructor will explain the uniform and professional appearance (ex., facial piercings, unnaturally colored hair, and artificial nails. Your name tag will be your student ID.
  • Watch: with second hand.
  • White shoes: Closed toe with nonslip soles.
  • Immunizations: (Required) Due before the first class day. Shot record form is in the nurse assistant registration packet.
  • Physical Requirements: Students must be physically & mentally able to perform the necessary tasks and skills required of a nursing assistant including adequate vision and hearing as well as transferring, moving, ambulating or lifting patients on a regular basis.
