About the program:
Cosmetology is the art and science of beautifying hair, skin and nails. The main goal of the Cosmetology program is to prepare students to pass the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation examination. The program prepares students to pass both the Texas written and practical examinations. Students receive this preparation through classes and also by actual salon experience through the program's salon facilities and its clientele. The program contains three certificates of completion. The Operator Certificate prepares students to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation examination for the operator license and for managing a business. Classes begin in August and January.
The Cosmetology Program contains three certificates of completion:
- Operator Certificate - 42-Hour (2018-2019)
- Nail Technology - 16-Hour (2018-2019)
- Facial Specialist - 25-Hour (2018-2019)
Academic Credit for TDLR Hours:
Individuals, who have approved cosmetology hours through Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), will receive academic credit. One Kilgore College class is equal to 125 clock hours. For each 125 approved hours, the individual will receive credit for a cosmetology class. The classes on the student’s transcript will show a CR for the grade.
NOTE: For students in this course who may have a criminal background, please be advised that the background could keep you from being licensed by the State of Texas. If you have a question about your background and licensure, please speak with your faculty member or the department chair.
