Kilgore College Research Protocols

Research is a systematic investigation, including research development, testing and evaluation, designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge.  Generalizable knowledge typically indicates that the results will be included in a thesis or dissertation, published, or presented at a conference.

Any activity meeting the definition of research above and that involves human subjects attending or employed by Kilgore College (i.e., human beings or data related to human beings), excluding certain exemptions, is subject to College approval.  While KC has no formal institutional review board (IRB) process, all requests will be evaluated by College personnel who have expertise in research and/or the research topic, under the guidance of the vice president of Organizational Effectiveness & Excellence.

Determination of approval will be made by the Coordinator of Institutional Research. In instances that require review at a more in depth level prior to approval determination, the Coordinator of Institutional Research will consult the Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Research and may assemble a committee of individuals with subject matter expertise. The committee will be charged with review and recommendation for the request. Final approval will be determined by the Coordinator of Institutional Research.

For more information, see the “Kilgore College Research Protocols” Word document.

AIP and Goal Information

All departments and programs at KC complete either the Annual Improvement Plan (AIP) or Annual Goal process each year as part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement. Academic departments, programs and student service areas complete AIPs. Areas such as Human Resources, Institutional Effectiveness & Research and Marketing complete the Annual Goal process. KC utilizes Campus Labs “Planning” software for these processes. Campus Labs Planning is accessible via AccessKC.

AIP Process (academic departments, programs and student service areas)

The AIP process involves Annual Outcomes that are assessed each academic year. The Annual Outcome assessment data is analyzed to determine the focus for the department’s/program’s Annual Improvement Plan. Development of the Annual Improvement Plan is due by September 15th each academic year. Plans are implemented, assessment is conducted and reported, data is analyzed and actions are determined.

By September 15th each year the following should be entered in Campus Labs:

  • AIP Results (for the academic year that recently ended)
  • Annual Outcome Results (for the academic year that recently ended)
  • AIP (for the new academic year)

By Feb. 15 of each year the Mid-year Report section of the AIP is due to be completed.
