And that's a good thing.
In fact, we've beaten all the big names in Texas college journalism. If you're majoring in journalism, Kilgore College is the place to go.
The Flare is cutting-edge, student driven journalism -- as it should be. We let our writing speak for itself.
And that's why The Flare has won the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association's Sweepstakes 16 of the past 18 years. In 2004, we competed against major colleges and universities for Best of Show. And we won.
But we don't rest on our laurels!
Because all the awards in the world mean nothing if students don't read the paper.
That's why we've always had a history of hard-hitting reporting that students want to read. This spring we unveiled our new entertainment section where students go to get the latest news in music and movies.
The Flare is seeking hard-working, innovative reporters, designers and editors. The Flare team also includes openings for non-journalism positions including advertising managers/designers and Web designers.
And because we're not one of those big schools, every journalism student starts out immediately writing for the paper. And that's what makes us different.
