SPAN 1411 Beginning Spanish IFour semester hours
This course is offered every fall semester. Beginning Spanish I introduces the student to basic listening, reading, oral and writing skills in Spanish as well as to Spanish culture. Emphasis is placed on pronunciation, elements of grammar, vocabulary, and conversation and composition based on situations in everyday life. This course consists of three hours of lecture time and two hours of computer language laboratory work per week. Students with previous course work may be required to take a placement test.
Prerequisite: No remedial requirements in English or Reading.
SPAN 1412Beginning Spanish IIFour semester hours.
This course is offered every spring semester. Beginning Spanish II is a continuation of the developing skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking) from Beginning Spanish I. Emphasis is placed on reading and comprehension (graded readings dealing principally with life in Spanish-American countries) and on oral language. This course also consists of three hours of lecture time and two hours of computer language lab work per week.
Prerequisite: SPAN 1411 or placement test with departmental approval.
SPAN 2311 Intermediate Spanish IThree semester hours.
This course is offered every fall semester. Intermediate Spanish I is a development of the grammar skills acquired in Beginning Spanish I and II. It will review and expand listening/speaking/reading/writing abilities, with an emphasis on composition and oral language. It also includes some relevant cultural topics. This course consists of three hours of lecture time with no hours of computer language lab.
Prerequisite: SPAN 1412 with grade C or better, placement test with departmental approval.
SPAN 2312Intermediate Spanish IIThree semester hours.
This course is offered every spring semester. Intermediate Spanish II provides an in-depth review of the grammar skills learned in the first three semesters. The student will continue to expand all four languages abilities, with an emphasis on oral language. Reading and analysis of literary texts (short stories, poems) will be introduced, expanding vocabulary and syntactical analysis, and a further development of comprehension.
This course consists of three hours of lecture time with no hours of computer language lab.
Prerequisite: SPAN 2311 with grade C or better, placement test with departmental approval.
