| Rangers lose opening game to Hutch, will face TJC this Saturday |
The Kilgore College Rangers football team was in high hopes of not repeating last season's losing start, but lost their first game to the Hutchinson (Kan.) Blue Dragons, 41-10. The Blue Dragons, entering the contest with the No. 13 National Junior College Athletic Association's ranking, looked poised throughout the contest, and deserving of their national ranking.
Hutchinson's RB Jamal Womble led all rushers with 171 yards and two TDs to lead the Blue Dragons. KC (0-1) fell into an early slump after two fumbles and a quick 10-0 Hutchinson lead. Kilgore put the ball on the turf six times, resulting in four fumbles in the contest, leading to Hutchinson scoring drives. QB Hans Cook led KC, completing 9-of-16 passing for 102 yards, and 14 rushing yards. Zavor Jones led the running attack with 40 yards on the ground. KC travels next Saturday, Sept. 4, to Trinity Mother Francis Rose Stadium in Tyler to face the Tyler Junior College Apaches in a 7 p.m . contest. TJC (0-1) lost in week one to Coffeyville Community College (Kan.), 27-10.
