Kilgore College Football History

The easy-going rural life of Kilgore changed drastically with the discovery of oil in December 1930. With the newfound success of the oil boom, Kilgore civic and business leaders realized it was possible to pursue what had earlier been an impossible dream -- establishing a community college. In the fall of 1935, operating under the Kilgore Independent School District, Kilgore College opened with a student enrollment of 229 and 11 faculty members. A football team was established in those first months and in its first season, the KC Rangers compiled a 5-3-2 record. KC has fielded a squad every year since, except the WWII years of 1943-1944, and carved its niche into the Texas football annals, compiling a record of 443-245-14. KC is the winningest junior college football program in Texas, claiming two national titles, appearing in 18 bowl games and producing 52 first-team All-Americans. This year's team will continue the rich heritage and proud traditions established by Ranger teams of the past.
