Technology
Radiologic Technology is both an art and a science. It is the largest of the allied health professions. Radiologic Technologists, also known as Radiographers and Medical Imaging Technologists, are trained in the specialized technical area of medical radiography. Students are trained in the application of scientific theory and principle, patient care, and medical ethics and law.

The Radiologic Technology Program at Kilgore College prepares students to enter the workforce through classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences. An energized lab allows Kilgore College Radiologic Technology students to simulate real life experiences on our campus before entering the clinical site. Students are prepared to assume a professional role in the field of Radiologic Technology.

What do graduates of the program do?
Radiographers assist in the diagnosis process by performing diagnostic medical procedures utilizing radiation, high tech equipment and computers. This health care professional works in Hospitals, Doctor Offices and Outpatient Clinics. Radiographers may also pursue a career in education, training or sales. Advancement opportunities in this field include Computed Tomography Technologist, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist, Special Imaging Technologist, Cardiac Cath Lab Imaging Technologist, Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Ultrasonographer, Radiation Therapist, Radiology Extender (RPA), Supervisor and Administrator. Some of these career opportunities require the Radiologic Technologist to seek additional education.

According to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics there will continue to be a demand for skilled workers in the field through
the
year 2010.

What kind of salary can graduates expect?
 According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national median salary for Radiologic Technologist is $48,100. Local salaries will vary.

How long does it take to complete the program?
 The program is a two year Associate Program. There is an admission process and some pre-requisite courses are required prior to applying to the program. |

How do you get more information about Radiologic Technology?
A new class begins each Fall semester. Application deadline to enter the Fall class is March 15. Students should have as many pre-admission courses completed as possible prior to applying to the program. The Radiologic Technology Information and Application packet can be downloaded from the General Information page. The packet includes information about the program, application instructions and the forms necessary to apply. The selection process is also outlined in the packet.
