Frequently Asked Questions
What is QUEST?
QUEST stands for "Quick Education for a Successful Tomorrow." It will give you the education you need to succeed in your career or enter a bachelor's degree program.
What credits do I earn?
You can earn up to 46 credits, which can be applied toward an Associate of Arts degree or transferred to a university.
Are the courses transferable to a university?
Yes. Every course is completely transferable to any public university in the state.
How long does it take?
From start to finish, attending only evening courses, you can complete 46 credit hours in less than two years. If you already have successfully completed comparable courses, it may take even less time.
When and where are the classes held?
Classes are Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 8:50 p.m. at Kilgore College—Longview, located near downtown Longview, South Street.
Is this affordable?
Very. Tuition and fees are the same low KC rates as in any other academic program. For your entire 24-months of class you will pay about what a single semester would cost at a university. Spend your time working on your degree, not mortgaging your future.
Are there any scholarships or grants available?
Any financial aid program available to all KC students will be available to you. We will work with you to get you any aid for which you may qualify.
How often do I attend class?
You normally take only two evening courses at once, with one on Tuesday and the other on Thursday. With the QUEST "hybrid" or blended-teaching approach, you'll spend almost three hours weekly in the classroom and several more hours completing assignments online.
Do I have to have a computer?
Yes, you must have ready access to a computer off campus with Internet access. All QUEST courses will require some coursework to be completed outside of class.
I have been out of the classroom a long time? Will I be able to keep up?
We will work with you to ensure your success. Our goal is to help you achieve your dream of an education.
What is the average age of the students?
The classes are designed for adults between 25 and 45. They may be younger or older. Your classmates will be adults, with the same work, family and other responsibilities you have.
How large will my classes be?
Class sizes are small, averaging 20 to 25 students to allow for group discussion and individual attention.
What if I already have some of the courses? Will you accept them?
Yes. Take only the courses you need. If you already have successfully completed comparable courses, all you need to do is pick up the courses you don't already have.
What about registration, books, paperwork etc? Can I also take care of these things during the evening?
Yes. Virtually everything is handled in the evening. You rarely will have to come during the day. Registration, getting your books, dealing with financial aid--you name it--is typically done the evenings you are on campus.
How do I sign up for QUEST?
You must first apply for admission to Kilgore College. You must have completed all developmental courses (except Math 0308) before you can take QUEST classes. To request a QUEST Information Packet, please click here: QUEST Request Form.
