ADMISSIONS GRADING CRITERIA

Admission to the PTA Program is limited to 16 students and is based on an accumulation of points. A maximum of 58 points is possible. The submitted application is first scored to determine eligibility with the top 40 or so applicants being offered an interview. Of these total points, a maximum of 21 points is possible for grade points in support courses and cumulative GPA’s in Anatomy & Physiology and all college-level sciences. The interview can account for up to 16 points with the same interviewers utilized, all applicants being asked the same questions, and a scoring form utilized. The reference forms and personal letter account for a maximum of 6 points. A student can gain or lose up to 5 points for their score on the HOBET. If considerably more than the minimum required number of observation or work hours is obtained, additional points may be awarded up to a maximum of 6 points. If negative comments are noted on the Volunteer/Observation Forms, points will be deducted. Lastly, a maximum of 4 additional points can be awarded if the student lives in the Kilgore College service area, has taken their support courses at Kilgore College or at a school where there is an articulation agreement in place (i.e. TJC), is a previous applicant, or has participated in physical therapy professional activities.

HOBET Practice Exam

The HOBET (Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test) is designed to measure your ability and compare it to college-level ability. The test is part of the PTA admissions process, but only for those applicants that are granted an interview. Many students have found it helpful to practice for the HOBET. An excellent free practice site is found at http://www.testprepreview.com. Follow the link on the left for the HOBET. This site is also an excellent resource for many other types of tests, including the Accuplacer, GED, SAT and ACT, among others.
