The Phlebotomy course is held at Kilgore College in the Bert E. Woodruff Adult Education Center. The 200-hour course consists of 80 hours of classroom lecture, 20 hours of classroom clinical, and 100 hours of site clinical.
Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. Site clinical begins approximately the 7 th week of class. Clinical locations, days, and times may vary.
Students are responsible for attending clinical at the locations and times assigned. Students are subject to drug screens and criminal history checks by the clinical sites. Students are required to wear a identification badge, scrub suit and leather athletic shoes during site clinical. These items will be discussed prior to clinical assignments.
On the first day of class, students must provide proof of having the Hepatitis B vaccination series or of having starting the Hepatitis B vaccination series. The instructor will discuss student Healthcare Provider CPR certification and TB Tine test on the first class day.
Students must pass their classroom work and exams with a minimum 75% average before site clinical will be assigned. Students must pass the final course exam, have a 75% overall grade point average, and complete 100 hours site clinical to be eligible for the national certification exam (ASPT).

Tuition: $450 (includes tuition of $420 and $30 required insurance fee)
Textbook: $90 (approx.) - Phlebotomy Essentials, 4th Edition available at the Kilgore College bookstore.
Scantrons: 100 question capacity - available at KC bookstore. Cost: 15 cents each
ASPT Test: $80 payable by money order to ASPT
CPR Healthcare Provider Certification:
approx. $30 - Certification will be offered thru the class or you may check with local hospitals or Red Cross services for classes.
TB Tine Test: Please obtain this test through your family physician or health clinic.
Hepatitis B injections : Hepatitis B injections are required by clinical sites and are highly recommended due to the nature of this field of study. Students may obtain the series from their family physician, local clinics, etc.
A High School diploma or GED and testing is required for this course.
Enrollment is limited to 14 students as limited by available clinical positions.
From the passing scores, Kilgore College will select the 14 eligible students with the highest scores.
We will contact the selected students by telephone as soon as possible after the testing deadline.
Each student accepted for enrollment must promptly bring a copy of their High School diploma or GED along with the tuition payment to the Bert E. Woodruff Adult Education Center for registration.
