Courses for the Oil and Gas Industry


Kilgore College offers a wide array of Petroleum Technology courses designed for personnel in the Oil and Gas Industry.  All courses are taught by experienced instructors, and provide practical "real world" experience that can be applied immediately in the workplace.  There are courses for both novices in the industry and for those who wish to expand their skills or meet certification standards.  All courses include handouts, textbooks (if required), Continuing Education Units (CEUs), and a Certificate of Completion.

PETROLEUM LANDMAN FUNDAMENTALS
This is a 7 week, 21 hour course that will equip the student with the necessary tools to better understand the function of a landman, some of the common mistakes made and a general understanding of the legal issues of oil & gas properties in Texas.  Class will be held on Tuesday nights.
TUITION: $500

DRILLING OPERATIONS

DESCRIPTION:  16 hours of classroom study; 1.6 CEU’s.  This two day class covers the aspects of a typical on land drilling operation.  This course is intended for the new employee just getting started in the industry or for anyone who wants to learn about the drilling industry.  Basic drilling principles, terminology and components will be discussed.

TUITION:  $350

NATURAL GAS MEASUREMENT
This four-day class covers the theory of natural gas, the gas laws and how to calculate volumes, and the equipment used to measure natural gas. API and GPA industry standards will be discussed.  Gas Sampling, odorizing and quality determination of the gas will be covered.  2.8 CEU’s will be awarded.

HYDRAULICS FOR PIPELINE OPERATIONS
This 2.5 day class covers the theory of hydraulics, flow equations used to determine efficient operations, and fluid properties and a total system design of a pipeline.  2.0 CEU’s.

ENGINE  AND COMPRESSOR OPERATIONS
Description:  32 hours of classroom training.  3.2 CEU’s will be awarded at the completion of this class.   This four-day class covers the basic operation of reciprocating compressors and their primary drivers used to run them.  The theory of two & four stroke cycle engines, and high-speed engine drivers will be discussed.  The primary components used to operate the engines and compressors in an efficient manner will be presented.

PETROLEUM FUNDAMENTALS
Description:  16 hours of classroom study; 1.6 CEU’s. This two-day class covers the topics that are important for a novice to understand how oil & gas is found and how it is extracted from the ground, the various processes used to move it to storage and on to the final product.  Terminology is important to be able to understand the language used in the oilfield environment.  Students will receive a dictionary of terms commonly used in the petroleum industry as well as a text that covers all aspects of the fundamentals.

SCADA SYSTEMS

This three-day course presents an overview of current technologies and components used in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Issues and Applications facing Petroleum Facilities and Networks are detailed.  In this course we provide the basic instruction necessary to understand the SCADA industry and applications, and provide the learners with the foundation to be able to communicate with various parties regarding SCADA system issues and applications.

TUITION: $850  
DATES: April 29 - May 1, 2008  September 2-4, 2008
