What Makes Our Program Stand Out?
Student internships make this program unique. Each student who enrolls in this program will be provided the opportunity to complete at least one internship before graduation. Many students complete two or more internships before graduation. In each internship, you receive three hours college credit while working in a safety related position with a sponsoring company in the East Texas area. This is unique in that it provides you with real, on-the-job experience along with your academic and technical classroom education. This program is affiliated with the American Society of Safety Engineers, the worlds oldest and largest professional safety organization. Kilgore College has a student chapter of ASSE affiliated with the East Texas professional chapter of ASSE. The student Chapter has monthly meetings with professional safety and health speakers that help the students become acquainted with safety professionals in the area.
Occupational Safety & Health Technology is a growing field. The reward of knowing that you are saving lives and preventing injuries in the workplace gives you peace of mind.
You may also take advantage of transfer agreements Kilgore College has with the University of Texas at Tyler and other Universities. Many of your classes from Kilgore College will apply toward a Bachelor of Science in Safety degree.

Safety Council of East Texas presents $1,000 to students
Founded in 1991 under the premise of providing regulatory compliance training to the manufacturing industry, the Safety Council of East Texas has taken its approach to another level.
Board member Ron Carter said that the council is still proactive in its strategies and council members are providing information to potential safety industry employees prior to graduation. |
| Carter addressed 20 students enrolled in KC’s occupational safety and health class, providing pointers and insight on securing a place in the safety industry. He also presented $500 scholarships to Mary Landers and Gregory Liner, both students with strong academic standing and involvement within the industry. |
| “We want to congratulate these students for their hard work and help them as much as we can in pursuing careers in the safety industry,” Carter said. |
| Topics discussed included identifying career preferences such as safety inspector, safety manager, industrial hygiene, construction and manufacturing. Carter also placed a great emphasis on obtaining a degree, preparation for travel or relocation, the art of communication and tips on resumes and interviews. |
