Notification for students applying for housing applications

New law requires Bacterial Meningitis vaccination

The State of Texas has passed a new law (HB 4189) beginning Jan. 1, 2010, that requires all incoming students who live on campus to provide evidence either of vaccination against bacterial meningitis or a signed affidavit declining the vaccination prior to living on campus. Students will not receive a housing assignment until one of these two documents is received by Kilgore College Residential Life:

  1. Certification from a physician or local health authority that the student has been vaccinated at least ten (10) days prior to an assignment for housing.
  2. An affadivit or a certificate from a physician stating that the vaccination would be injurious to the health and well being of the student or stating that the vaccination has been declined for reasons of conscience. The only approved form for an exemption can be found at: https://webds.dshs.state.tx.us/immco/affidavit.shtm

If students are over the age of 18, they can complete the form themselves, listing themselves as the parent or legal guardian.

REMINDER: Students are strongly encouraged to visit their primary care physician or area health clinic as soon as possible to receive the appropriate vaccinations. Students will not receive a housing assignment until after the documents are received by the Office of Residential Life.
