The Randolph C. Watson Library recognizes its responsibilities to serve as one instrument of the total education program. The major purpose of the library is to participate in the educational program by acquiring, making readily available, and assisting in the use of books and other materials by its users. Acquisitions is an activity that involves the planned selection of items best qualified to strengthen the college's resources for instruction and research. Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate on our collection development efforts.
Students may check-out selected AV materials for classroom presentations.
Telecourse video tapes are distributed to students at the circulation desk in the RCW Library. These tapes have their own due dates decided by test schedules.
Math video tapes for college mathematics, college algebra, trigonometry, and calculus are available. These tapes may be checked out for 48 hours. If there is not a demand for the tapes they may be rechecked for another 48 hours. There is a $5.00 fine per day the tapes are not returned.
Art prints are also available to be checked out for use in classroom presentations.
Students presenting a current ID card or other identification at the Circulation Desk may check out a maximum of five books during a given two-week period. Materials may be rechecked once for one additional week. Faculty and staff are allowed to check out any number of items for a semester period.
If a fine is incurred, a hold will be placed in Poise and the patron will be unable to check out books, obtain transcripts, checks, etc. until the fine is paid and the hold removed.
Patrons that are not faculty, staff or students, may check out books by becoming a consortium user, a Texshare user or a Friend of the Library.
Please view the Circulation Policy Table for library policies for specific patron checkout periods and fines.
The RCW Library provides its students, staff, and faculty with materials not available on the Kilgore Campus through the Interlibrary Loan Services. ILL services are a privilege that lending libraries grant to us to facilitate research.
Reference materials occupy the first floor of the library and are designated by an "R" above the call number. These materials are for in-house use only and may not be checked out. The staff is readily available in locating or assisting users in their information needs.
Bibliographic instructions are offered to classes and/or individuals upon request. Guide for citing books and other materials such as MLA and APA styles are provided.
Materials on Reserve must be used in the Library only. Exceptions would involve a Faculty member requesting the student be allowed to borrow the book/media. Students must provide a note from the teacher. In that case, the check out period is overnight. Any other exceptions must be at the discretion of the Librarian on duty. Faculty placing materials on Reserve contact Barbara Murray, ext. 236. Click HERE to review the RCW Library Reserve Policy.;
The RCW Library has a security system to insure books and other materials do not leave the library without being properly checked out. Each patron must pass through this alarm system when leaving the library. If the alarm sounds the patron will be asked to empty any backpacks etc to see what caused the alarm to sound. It may be necessary to write the patron's name and ss# down with the possibility of losing their library privileges for the remainder of the semester.
