Cheerleaders Tryout Information

Fall 2011 Pep Rally


NOTE: Dates of tryouts are subject to change.
Please contact the cheer director if you plan on trying out
at Kilgore College.


Method of Selection

  • Tryout dates are TBA
  • Men and women who want to try out for cheerleader will meet at 10 a.m. in Masters Gymnasium on the Kilgore College campus.
  • Three letters of recommendation from previous school attended and proof of eligibility (a transcript from high school or college) should be mailed prior to tryouts to:

  •  Bring or wear clothes suitable for practice. Workout will be from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
  •  Cheerleader candidates may bring camcorders if they wish to record activities
  •  
    Motels in Kilgore for those who need a place to stay are: Best Western Inn (903) -986-1195, Holiday Inn Express (903) 986-3533 and Ramada Inn (903) 983-3456. You could even stay in our housing on campus if you wish, but you must call me in advance and notify me if this is what you want to do.

    Squad will be chosen by a panel of judges (three or more judges who have expertise in cheerleading). Scholarships will be provided. For scholarship details, contact Latane Speer.


    Eligibility Requirements

    For Tryouts
    Each Cheerleader Candidate will be judged on the following:
  • Jumps - three jumps of choice
  • Stunts (minimum) - (a.) toss stunt (b.) one-arm stunt (c.) optional stunt of choice (females double down) 
  •  Posture and personal appearance
  •  Personality, enthusiasm, voice and motions
  •  Standing tumbling - (a.) back handspring (b.) standing back
  •  Tumbling pass
  •  Chants taught at practice by KC Cheerleaders
  •  Dance taught at practice
  • Preferred Skills for Tryouts

    Stunters
    Males will be judged on presentation, cheer, stunt technique and difficulty, standing tumbling, jumps, and crowd appeal.
    Females will be judged on presentation, cheer, dance, jumps, stunt technique and difficulty, standing tumbling, and crowd appeal.
    Stunts: Three sequenced stunts that consist of a tossed stunt (full up or rewind included), one arm stunt, and at least one cradle with a double down. Females should also demonstrate front flexibility (heel stretch or over stretch) and back flexibility (scorpion or scale) in their three stunt sequence.
     
    Tumblers
    Tumblers will be judged on presentation, cheer, tumbling technique and difficulty, standing tumbling, jumps, and crowd appeal.
    Running Tumbling: Two tumbling passes. A full is a minimum.
    Optional choice: Can include a third pass, a stunt, or basket toss (must be flipping).
    Standing Tumbling: Standing back tuck, toe touch or pike back tuck, standing two back-handsprings to a full.
    Female tumblers will also be judged on a dance.
     
    All candidates will be required to execute a pike and double whipped toe touch for their jumps.
     
    Video or DVD tryout: Candidates may submit a VHS or DVD-R if unable to attend live tryout due to extenuation circumstances. This material can be mailed to Latane Speer.
