DAISY BRADFORD 3:
Title meaning:
The title of the play represents not only the three oil wells that were drilled, but also recognizes Dad Joiner, Doc Lloyd and Daisy Bradford.
Information:
The Daisy Bradford 3, written by Dr. Gifford Wingate, is being brought back to East Texas as part of the Diamond Jubilee. First produced by the Texas Shakespeare Festival in Kilgore on July 3, 1986, the Daisy Bradford 3 recreates the story of the discovery of the East Texas Oil Field when the Daisy Bradford 3 blew in on October 3, 1930. John Dodd will direct the play with a cast of 15 professional actors and support personnel. Jimmy Humphreys, a 15 year veteran of the Shakespeare Festival, will put his magic to work in creating the scenery. Joel Ebarb, who has 16 years with TSF, will design the costumes. Don’t miss this play and the opportunity to revisit the past during the East Texas Boom Days.

Student Performances will be at 9:30 a.m. on
• Thursday, September 29 9:30 a.m.
• Friday, September 30. 9:30 a.m.
RESERVATIONS will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Grades 4 thru 8 in schools in counties of Rusk, Gregg, Smith, Upshur and Cherokee are invited to attend. Reservations can be booked by calling the Box Office # 903.983.8179 starting Sep 12. These school performances will be underwritten and therefore without cost to the students and teachers. Callers will be asked to give:
• the performance date asked for,
• name & location of the school,
• the grade of the class,
• number of students and teachers requiring seats, and
• name, phone # and e-mail address for contact.
(Please be accurate as to the number of seats needed. Seats are limited and we will not be able to accommodate all the classes.
UNDERWRITING OPPORTUNITY:
Dodson Auditorium will seat a maximum of 1,660, so for two performances there will be an opportunity for 3,320 students and teachers to see the play. So that every member of the classes that elect to take advantage of this cultural event will be able to afford the play, we ask that consideration be given to underwriting the event at the $15,000 level. (It will be almost impossible to fill exactly 1,660 seats.) An underwriter will receive recognition on this web site page and on any notices that are made or sent to the schools. If the underwriting decision is made early enough the initial notice to all the Intermediate and Middle Schools in the 5 County area will contain recognition of the gift. The donor will also receive a special East Texas Oil Museum Endowment Certificate, numbered in the 1 to 100 series, and all the privileges that go with that certificate. If it is desired, the Special Performances will be named for the donor. For example, “The XYZ Company has underwritten the Daisy Bradford 3 play”.
