The Story:
Bluebonnet, a well traveled armadillo, is the main character in eight children
books written by Mrs. Mary Brooke Casad. In this book Bluebonnet visits her
sister Irmadillo in Kilgore, meets her 4 nephews who are named for aspects
of East Texas Oil history and visits the East Texas Oil Museum. The book
is beautifully illustrated.
Author:
Mrs. Mary Brooke Casad, a native of Louisiana now living in Carrolton, Texas,
received her bachelor's degree in Journalism from Southern Methodist University
and also studied at Harlaxton College in Grantham, England. She is Director
of Missions for the United Methodist Church in the Dallas area. Her husband,
Dr Victor E. Casad, is pastor of the Christ United Methodist Church in Farmers
Branch. He is also a cousin of Kilgore's Guy Oliphint. Guy's wife Billie was
instrumental in planting the idea for this book.
Illustrator:
Benjamin Vincent lives in Dallas and is past president of the Dallas Society
of Illustrators. He has said that his illustrations in this book are his
favorites of all that he has done. We have seen the galley proof and agree
with his evaluation.
