Bettye Craddock, Journalism Instructor and Flare and Ranger Yearbook Adviser, believes in giving students the opportunity for hands-on work in all production aspects of the weekly newspaper and the yearbook. Flare editors easily step into editorial staff positions at major universities. Graduates are also successful employees of newspapers and communications-related businesses across the state and the nation. Kilgore College has the reputation of graduating students bosses want to hire!
The Flare and the Ranger Yearbook have been stepping stones to professional success for hundreds of KC alumni who have become career writers, editors and photojournalists at publications and broadcast media outlets in East Texas and beyond, including the Arizona Daily Star, Associated Press, Central Penn Business Journal, Dallas Morning News, Denver Post, Detroit News, Fort Worth Star Telegram, Houston Chronicle, Know Atlanta magazine, San Diego Tribune, 20th Century Fox, The Wall Street Journal and advertising agencies in Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin.
KC program alumni have also recently served as editors on the UT Austin Daily Texan, the UT Arlington Shorthorn, the University of North Texas Daily Texan, the Stephen F. Austin Pine Log, and the Texas State University Daily University Star.
