Kilgore College offers general education requirements, history, anthropology, and government necessary to apply to a university offering bachelor programs in government, history, political science or pre-law fields.

The Social And Behavioral Sciences Department at Kilgore College serves the students of the college by providing courses that meet the Core Curriculum requirements for successful transfer and completion of a bachelor’s degree at four-year colleges and universities. Courses are offered in a comprehensive schedule during Fall and Spring at both the Kilgore and Longview campuses. Shorter courses are offered in a mini-semester format at the Christmas break and in the summer. Summer semester courses usually last five weeks, but three week mini-semesters are offered throughout the summer. These different schedules offer flexibility for different learning styles while maintaining the integrity of the course syllabi.

History courses are required for all transfer students, but the courses are particularly important for education majors at elementary, secondary or college levels. History majors also find careers in research, writing, museums and government service. History majors frequently enter law schools, and they are increasingly being recruited by businesses that are seeking well-educated graduates who can think analytically and communicate in both written and oral forms.

The Kilgore College faculty is a diverse group of experienced teachers who provide a variety of teaching styles from which students may choose. Their expertise is shown in the number of students who enroll in history courses because of degree requirements but make the decision to continue as majors. The study of history opens a door of understanding for the world in which we live and work. Positive experiences in Kilgore College classrooms have resulted in students of all majors becoming lifelong students of history.
