HEALTH SCIENCE ADMISSIONS GUIDELINES
With the increased competition for admission to professional health science programs, the following guidelines for admission are as follows:
- Students should maintain a strong academic record.
- All science and professional courses require a C or better and must be taken within a seven year period prior to entrance to the professional clinical training. Exception: Associate Degree Nursing (RN) Program has dropped their recent requirement.
- Students are encouraged to satisfactorily complete 6-12 months of pre-admission studies. This may include general education courses and anatomy and physiology courses (See curriculum)
- The Health Science Counselor should be contacted prior to making application to the professional Health Science curriculum at (903) 983-8184.
- Students should request and maintain an up-to-date degree plan evaluation of all official transcripts from other institutions using a Health Science Evaluation obtained from the Counseling Center.
- Students must submit two separate applications; one for admission to Kilgore College (obtained from the Office of Admission) and one for admission to the specific Health Science Program (obtained from the Program Chair)
- Admission to Kilgore College in no way implies or guaranteed admission to the professional Health Science curriculum.
- All students must meet the admission requirements given in the catalog in effect at the time of application to the desired Health Science Program.
- Program application deadlines vary, but in general, applications to the specific programs are submitted during the spring semester (by March and April). Students should contact each program department or the Health Science Counselor for the specific application deadlines.
- Students must satisfactorily complete all developmental studies and TASP requirements (if applicable) prior to admission to the professional clinical training.
- If the student is TASP exempt, the student must show evidence of no developmental requirements through an appropriate testing assessment or show evidence of the completion of one college-level English and/or one college-level math course (if applicable)
- All applicants are expected to be proficient in communication, math, science, and learning skills, and have the physical characteristics to practice their chosen health profession. Health examinations are required.
- The student is responsible for seeking advice, knowing and meeting the requirements of the Health Science Program of interest, enrolling in courses appropriate to that program, and taking courses in the proper sequence to ensure orderly and timely progress toward acceptance, progression, and completion of the program.
