Testing Services - Kilgore

The Testing Center exists to provide a comprehensive program of services including assistance for students in meeting their educational goals through assessment. Both nationally and locally developed standardized exams are used to identify academic strengths and weaknesses in the basic skill areas of Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

Location: Second floor of the Devall Student Center on the Kilgore campus.

Testing Center Hours:

  • Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (last test starts at 7 p.m.)
  • Friday: 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. (no tests administered on Fridays)
  • Saturday-Sunday: Closed
  • Summer Hours (Monday-Thursday): 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (last test starts at 6 p.m.)

Testing Center Guidelines:

  • All testing is by appointment only. Appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance of desired test date.
  • Any cellular, electronic or alarm device must be turned off completely. Failure to do so will result in the CANCELLATION of your test scores and your dismissal from the Testing Center.
  • Food, drink and tobacco products are not allowed in the testing center.
  • A current, valid photo ID MUST be presented upon each visit to the center.
  • Personal belongings must be placed into an empty locker (items that don’t fit will need to be returned to your vehicle)
  • Children and other visitors are NOT ALLOWED to wait in the testing area.
  • eLearning students arriving more than 10 minutes after their scheduled appointment will not be able to take their test and will need to reschedule for another day.
  • Testing Fees are non-refundable.
  • Testing staff is not responsible for items stored into the locker cabinets (students are encouraged to leave personal items in their vehicle).
  • Payment of testing fees MUST be made prior to testing.

Available Tests, Test Dates and Registration Forms


The ACT is only offered on the Kilgore campus on select dates. Please visit the links below for available test dates and registration. The cost of the ACT (no writing) is $36.50; ACT (plus writing) - $52.50; Standby - $43 (in addition to no-writing or plus writing fee).

Want college-credit without classroom instruction? Take the College Level Examination Program tests and shorten your path to a college degree. Visit the CLEP schedule or official CLEP website for more details. The cost of each exam is $80 plus a $30 proctoring fee.

Computer Competency Exam:

Beginning in the fall of 2014, students must demonstrate computer competency in one of two ways:

  • Earn a grade of C or higher in one of the approved computer competency courses at Kilgore College.
  • Achieve a score of 70 or higher on the KC Computer Competency Test. The test consists of both computer concepts and application usage.

(Computer competency should be completed no later than the completion of 24 semester credit hours. Testing is by appointment only and the testing fee of $25 must be paid prior to scheduling a testing appointment.)

GED Computer-Based Test (CBT):

Test-takers can now take the GED on computer. Candidates must register online, through the Pearson VUE call center at 1-877-EXAM-GED (392-6433), www.ged.com, or at the testing center. The cost is $33.75 per test or $135 for all tests however; the entire test cannot be taken on the Kilgore campus in one day. The SAT is only offered on the Kilgore campus on select dates. Please visit the links below for available test dates and registration. The cost of the exam is $51 (Fee waiver available); SAT Subject tests - $24.50 (per registration); +$24 Language with Listening Tests (per test); +$13 All other Subject Tests (per test). Students must register for the exam online at sat.collegeboard.org.

The TEAS V exam is available for students applying to the ADN nursing program. The exam is online and students may test twice per calendar year. Students with specific questions about the KC nursing program and additional requirements should contact the nursing department. The cost of the exam is $75 for both initial and retesting. TSI Assessment:

The TSI Assessment is the new state placement exam which assesses a student’s skill in the academic areas of math, reading and writing for college-readiness. Students must complete the application for admission at least 48 hours prior to scheduling a testing appointment. The test is untimed but will range from 1-5 hours to complete. Students are required to complete a pre-assessment activity prior to testing and must provide proof of such activity upon arrival to test. The cost of the entire exam is $40 and $20 for a part of the exam.

You are ready to schedule your testing appointment if you have:

  • Submitted an admissions application
  • Submitted transcripts to Registrar's Office
  • Completed the PAA (Pre-Assessment Activity)
  • Checked Campus Connect to determine your TSI status and to obtain your KC student ID number.

If you have completed the steps listed above, you ARE NOW READY to contact the testing center to schedule your exam.

If you have not completed all steps listed above, you are NOT READY to schedule your testing appointment.

Remember that you must:

  • Pay the testing fee to the Cashier's Office and bring your receipt on test day.
  • Print a copy of the Pre-Assessment Activity certification and bring with you on test day.
  • Provide a valid photo ID and your KC ID student ID number on test day.

TSI Pre-Assessment Activity

Students must complete the pre-assessment activities, print out the certificate at the end and bring the certificate with them when they come to take the TSI test.

TSI Testing for Course Placement (Required)

As mandated by the Texas state legislature, prior to enrolling in any college-level credit-hour courses, all first time in college students must be assessed in the basic skill areas of reading, writing and math unless otherwise exempt.

Requirements of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI):

The requirements of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) are the result of a clearly established need for students to gain a higher level of academic preparation in order to enhance their chances of collegiate success. Required by Texas Education Code 51.306, TSI went into effect in the fall semester of 2003. Its provisions include basic skills testing, advisement, and mandatory remediation (when test scores so indicate) as indicated by the local college plan. (See TSI Exemptions below.)

Online (eLearning) Testing Services

The Testing Center will proctor eLearning exams according to the following guidelines:

eLearning Guidelines:

  • All testing is by appointment only.
  • All appointments need to be made 24 hrs in advance NO Exceptions
  • Testing is not available on Fridays or weekends.
  • A student cannot schedule an appointment until we receive tests from the instructor.
  • Students arriving more than 10 minutes late from their appointment will need to reschedule for another day.
  • Students are responsible for keeping up with test dates and for contacting instructors with questions.
  • Valid photo id is required for all testing(KC ID cards require current semester sticker)
  • Children and other visitors are NOT ALLOWED to wait in the testing area.
  • A $30 fee is assessed per exam for all courses not originating from KC.

VCT - Virtual College of Texas:

Kilgore College participates in a consortium of area colleges to provide additional opportunities for students to take courses.   Students NOT enrolled through KC in a VCT course must pay $30 per test for each exam proctored through the testing center.  Contact Charleen Worsham for enrollment details at (903) 988-3700.
