Kilgore College is committed to helping you make your education as affordable as possible. |
| Students may qualify for state or federal grants and federal loans as well as private loans. The following steps will determine your eligibility for any of these programs. |
NOTE:
The deadline to receive financial aid
for Fall 2010 was July 1, 2010.
Students submitting late documents will have their files processed in the order of date received, will most likely not be awarded by the Fall payment deadline. If not awarded by Fall 2010 registration, students will be expected to pay for their classes until their financial aid can be processed and awarded.
It all starts with a FAFSA...
| 1. Get a PIN (Personal Identification Number) at www.pin.ed.gov. A PIN is your electronic signature for the Dept. of Education and is required to complete your online FAFSA. Your parents are required to have their own PIN if you are a dependent. | |
| 2. Complete the FAFSA. Fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Financial aid cannot be awarded without a completed FAFSA on file. Kilgore College must be listed as your first school of choice. Our code is 003580. | |
| 3. Return your paperwork. The KC Financial Aid office will send you paperwork to complete your financial aid package once your file is electronically transferred to our system. Complete it, sign it and return it. | |
| 4. Request your transcripts or GED records to be sent to the KC Registrar's office. | |
| 5. Optional: Apply for a Federal Loan and/or KC scholarships - Click here to go to Loan page. Scholarship applications are available from the KC scholarship office or from high school counselors. You may request an application by e-mail at bdavis@kilgore.edu. or Click here to go to the scholarship information page. | |
| 6. Sign your Award Letter. An award letter will notify you of any funds (grant or loans) for which you are eligible. Sign the letter and return it immediately. | |
| 7. Your grant funds are now available! Your account will be credited with the funds designated by the Award letter as soon as it is signed and returned. If you want loans, you will need to complete the Loans by web process before the loan money is credited to your account. | |
| 8. Register for classes. Register for your classes. Get a paid receipt from the Cashier's Window. | |
| 9. Buy your books. You may charge books against your grant or scholarship funds once you have a paid receipt. | |
| 10. Monitor balances! You may be eligible for unused funds if your financial aid exceeds the cost of your college fees. Funds are disbursed 45-60 days after the semester begins. | |
| Note: Financial Aid is designed to assist you to get a college education. You may be responsible to repay some or all of the grant funds that have been received on your behalf if you withdraw before the end of the semester. |
How much can I receive? You may receive up to $5,350 a year from the Pell Grant if you qualify for the full amount. First year Stafford loan limits are $3500 for dependent students and an additional $6000 for Independent students. Need help completing the FAFSA? Call the East TX Educational Opportunity Center located in Longview. The service is free but appointments are required. They have trained advisors to assist you. East Texas Educational Opportunity Center
