Don't limit your financial aid. Federal, state, local and college resources may be available to you.

New this year, Kilgore College will participate in the Stafford Loan program, which is available to almost everyone. It offers an exceptional repayment plan that typically does not begin until you have completed your education.

A good internet resource, particularly for federal aid, is "Finaid," (www.finaid.org/) a valuable website filled with help on getting financial aid.

 


The following categories of funds are available for students who qualify:

  • Federal Sources of Financial Aid (TITLE IV)

    Pell Grant - Varies from $400 to $4,310 yearly (Dependent upon eligibility)

    Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG) - Varies from $200 to $1,000 yearly

    New for 2007! Federal Family Education Loan Program (Stafford) - up to $8,500 yearly

    Subsidized Stafford Loans are based on financial need and are available to students. Interest that accrues on Subsidized Stafford Loans while the student borrower is in school at least half-time is paid by the federal government. Repayment of the loans begins six months after the student borrower ceases half-time enrollment.


    Unsubsidized Stafford Loans
    follow the same basic rules as the Subsidized Stafford, except that the student borrower is responsible for all interest accumulated on the loan from the time of disbursement until the loan is paid-in-full.

    Parent Plus Loans
    are available for parents of dependent students who are not eligible for enough need-based aid to cover their educational expenses.

    College Work Study - up to $2,500 yearly

    Veteran's Benefits under Montgomery GI Bill

  • State of Texas Financial Aid

    Texas Grant - up to $1,470 yearly

    Texas Educational Opportunity Grant - up to $1,470 yearly

    Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG) - Varies from $500 to $1,000 yearly

    The Texas B-on-Time Loan Program offers zero percent interest loans to qualified Texas residents. The loan will be forgiven is the student graduates with a 3.0 GPA, within two calendar years, at a public or private two-year institution. Up to $1,270 yearly (Cannot be awarded in addition to Texas Grant funds.)

    State exemption programs are available to qualified students. Tuition and fees are wavered

  • Institutional Funds

    Presidential Scholarship: Covers all tuition, fees and books

    Departmental/Institutional Scholarships - Varies from $300 to $2,000 yearly

    Kilgore College Foundation Scholarships - Varies from $150 to $4,000 yearly

    Tuition Exemptions - Varies from $1,000 to $3,000 yearly

  • Outside Agency Funds

    Community Aid Agency Scholarships and Funds - Varies from $500 to $4,000

    Payment Plans are an option for every student. You can spread your tuition and fees over the entire semester instead of having to pay all up front. This is a particularly attractive option for those who are working on a budget and needing smaller payments.

You can complete, submit, and track the FAFSA over the Web. Most importantly, your data is checked before it is transmitted to the processing center, so there's less chance of making an error.

Parent and Student Guide to Federal Tax Benefits for Tuition and Fees for Tax Year 2006

The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) publishes the Parent and Student Guide to Federal Tax Benefits for Tuition and Fees to provide students, parents, counselors, and others with general guidance to federal education-related tax benefits. The Guide includes basic information about the Hope Scholarship tax credit, the Lifetime Learning tax credit, and the Tuition and Fees Tax Deduction.
