Federal Loans will not be disbursed until 30 days after first class day
If you have applied for a direct Federal Loan(s) and it is the first time that you have ever received a student loan, your loan(s) will not disburse to cover your charges until 30 days after the first class day. You will then receive any credit balance refund (on the loans only) 14 fourteen days after that. Also note; that if you are receiving the loan(s) for the 1st time and only one semester (ex: Fall only or Spring only) you will receive the loan credit balance in 2 payments. The 1st after the 14 days as described previously and the 2nd thirty days later.
EXAMPLE of Refund dates for 1st time loan borrowers or 1st time loan borrowers requesting one semester only loans:
- First Refund Date: Regular refund date for all students is September 26th - you will receive any credit balance refund of Pell, grants, scholarships, etc, but not the loan credit balance.
- Second Refund Date: First time loan borrowers refund date is October 10th - you will receive any credit balance from your loans.
- Third Refund Date: First time loan borrowers who only request loans for one semester will have refund dates of October 10th and then November 10th.
- The same rule applies to any regular student has had loans previously but now requests loan(s) for only one semester. The student will receive the first half of loan on regular refund date and the 2nd half thirty days later.

There are three categories of students:
There are three categories of students:
- Returning students who are enrolled again and have received student loans in the past – These students will have a FS Loan Profile Code.
- New or returning students who are enrolled for one semester only (who have received student loans in the past) – These students will have a FO or SO Loan Profile Code.
- New students who have never been to college or ever received student loans - These students will have a FSF or SOF Loan Profile Code.
NOTE**** all students with FSF/SOF or FO/SO Loan profile codes will receive refunds only after all charges have been paid. If charges are still owed on the account by the refund date the student will not be eligible for a refund.
For all students with loan profile codes of FO/SO and FSF/SOF - this means that according to Federal Student Loan regulations, your loan will disburse in two payments. On the first refund date your financial aid will be applied to your charges and if it completely covers the charges and there are remaining funds - you will receive a refund. IF your aid is NOT enough to cover your charges – you WILL NOT receive a refund. Upon the second disbursement of the loan, your entire charges are paid and any remaining funds will be refunded.
There are 3 refund dates for these 3 groups of students to consider in terms of refunds:
FS: Students not considered first time loan borrowers will receive refunds of any remaining funds of Pell, Scholarships, State Aid, and Federal Loans in one refund payment.
FSF/SOF: Any student considered to be a first time loan borrower will receive any remaining funds of Pell, Scholarships, State Aid after all charges have been applied unless aid does not fully cover all charges. Students will receive a second refund of the 1st half of loan after any remaining charges are applied, if there are no charges the student will receive the full half of loan(s).Students will receive a third refund of the 2nd half of loan after any remaining charges are applied, if there are no remaining charges the student will receive the full half of loan(s).
FO/SO: Any student not considered a first time loan borrower and attending for one semester only will receive refunds of any remaining funds of Pell, Scholarships, State Aid, and 1st half of Federal Loans after all charges have been applied unless aid does not fully cover all charges. Students will receive a second refund of the 2nd half of loan after any remaining charges are applied, if there are no charges the student will receive the full half of loan(s).
BE AWARE that students who reside in the dorms will very likely not receive a refund until 2nd or 3rd refund dates, as there will be outstanding charges due to housing and meal plan charges.

ALSO, as of Spring 2011 all financial aid students will be required to complete a LOAN REQUEST FORM for any of the following:

DON'T GET SCAMMED!
Attention Financial Aid Students: Recently, some students have received correspondence from an organization representing themselves as a financial aid serving company. If you ever receive anything by e-mail or see anything online that charges a fee for the FAFSA, don't believe it. The FAFSA is a free online tool for financial aid. You should never pay anything to fill this information out. Only visit www.fafsa.ed.gov for FAFSA information. All other sites online that charge money are to be avoided."
Kilgore College has the resources for you.
Thousands of people like you come face to face every year with the dilemma of figuring out how they will cover college costs.
Annette Morgan, Financial Aid Officer at KC says,
"Don't get discouraged. Get Help!"
"Most people are surprised to learn that no one at any income level is excluded from receiving some form of financial aid."
