Students looking for a good-paying career straight out of high school have a viable option through Kilgore College’s Electric Power Technology Certificate. The 10-week course of study will award those who graduate with an electrical power certificate which will allow them to go right to work for an electric company.
Electrical lineworkers can expect to earn $11-20 as a starting salary. With a large number of projected employee retirements within the next five to seven years, statewide electric cooperatives are expecting a significant shortage of workers. Workers can expect a great job, great salary and benefits.
In-the-field courses will be taught at Rusk County Electric Cooperative (RCEC) in Henderson. Classroom instruction will be held at the KC campus in Henderson.
Students must pass a TX DOT physical and drug test as a prerequisite for the Electric Power Technology Certificate. Students will be subject to random drug testing during the weeks of instruction.
Proof of Medical insurance is required to enroll.
A pre-qualifying physical assessment of students’ climbing skills, strength, agility and tolerance of heights will be conducted during Mandatory Orientation. Appropriate clothing is required: jeans or slacks with no tears or frays, long-sleeved, collared shirt, closed-toe shoes (preferably boots), no jewelry or piercings.
