What do graduates of the program do?

Security specialists plan, coordinate and implement an organization’s information security, educate users on computer security, install security software, monitor the network for security breaches, respond to cyber attacks and, in some cases, gather data and evidence to be used in prosecuting cyber crime.

What is the job outlook for graduates?

This field is one of the fastest-growing areas of Information Technology.  According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook, explosive growth in computer areas is expected to fuel demand for specialists knowledgeable about network, data and communications security. Demand for computer security specialists will grow as businesses and governments continue to invest heavily in cyber-security, protecting vital computer networks and electronic infrastructure from attack.

hat kind of salary can graduates
expect locally and nationally?


According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national median salary for Computer Security Specialist is $38,610. Local salaries will vary.


How long does it take to complete the program?



Students can complete a one-year certificate or a two-year associate degree. Both are designed to give you the necessary training for this exploding profession, with a minimal investment of time at low Kilgore College tuition rates.

One very attractive aspect of the degree is the inclusion of preparatory work for three highly desired certifications–Cisco Corporation Networking Academy (CCNA), Microsoft Certified System Administrator and Security+.

The one-year certificate program also includes preparatory work for the CCNA certification.
