Nuts & Bolts Information
Kilgore College uses the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS).
The first digit in a course number indicates the level (developmental-0, freshman-1, sophomore-2), while the second digit represents the number of credits for that class.
MATH 0308 (developmental math, 3 credits)
ENGL 1301 (freshman level English, 3 credits)
BIOL 2401 (sophomore level biology, 4 credits)
Note: For courses with labs, do not count the additional credits for the lab. Lab grades are usually averaged with lecture grades.
CHEM 1411 (freshman level chemistry, 4 credits)
CHEM 1411L (freshman level chemistry lab, 0 additional credits)
Full-time status is 12 or more credits (sometimes called “credit hours,” “hours,” or “semester hours”). Students probably need to have full-time status to stay on parents’ hospitalization insurance or to get maximum benefit from financial aid.
To complete 60+ credits of freshman/sophomore course work in 2 years, students need to take 15 or more hours each fall and spring semester. Students can take fewer hours in the fall/spring semesters and still complete lower division course work in 2 years if they take some courses during summer or mini sessions.
