After completing the classroom hours
After 1500 clock hours of classroom and laboratory instruction, students are eligible to take the state test for an operator's license. Required by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, students must take a practical exam in Dallas and a written exam in Tyler. In the six-hour practical exam, the student uses a model to show competency in all the phases of cosmetology learned in the program. The written exam contains 100 questions. To receive a license, you must pass each exam with a 70 or above.

Cosmetology
Begin a career as a Cosmetologist at Kilgore CollegeLongview. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLC) requires students to complete 1500 clock hours, which takes three semesters or 12 months.
New students start in January and August.
Program hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Mondays through Fridays.

Cosmetology Operator Cost of Program
Tuition:
$2,073 (In-District) $4,131 (Out-of-District)
Tuition is payable by semester.
Textbooks & Supplies: Approximately $1600

Facial Specialist/Esthetician
Begin a career as a Facial Specialist/Esthetician at Kilgore CollegeLongview. The program's curriculum is approved by the Department of Licensing and Regulation. Students who complete 750 clock hours are qualified to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation examination. Upon successful completion of the state exam, the student will be a licensed Facial Specialist and eligible for job placement.
Classes last two semesters and begin in August.
Program hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday.

Esthetician Cost of Program
Tuition: $1,206 (In-District) $2,382 (Out-of-District)
Textbooks, Kit, & Supplies: Approximately $1300

Nail Technology
Begin a career as a Nail Tech. at Kilgore CollegeLongview. The program's curriculum is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Students who complete 600 clock hours are qualified to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation examination. Classes last approximately 18 weeks. Upon successful completion of the state exam, the student will be a licensed Nail Technologist and eligible for job placement.
Classes start in August and in January.
Program hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Mondays through Fridays.

Tuition: $804 (In-District) $1,588 (Out-of-District)
Textbooks, Kit, & Supplies: Approximately $1300

Program Requirements

White uniforms: Dress or uniform top with skirt or slacks made of comfortable white jean-like material. (White Nail Tech t-shirt and sweatshirts may be purchased at Kilgore CollegeLongview.)

White shoes: No canvas shoes, sandals, or boots.

$25 Credit card chare to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for student permit.
Must have a 1"X1" ID type photo. (Instructors can make a copy of your driver's license, which will satisfy this requirement.)

Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation registration, completed and notarized.
