Career opportunities

Opportunities for graduates are far ranging. KC graduates have started their own businesses, work in computer repair shops and manufacturing, and succeed in a variety of industries. The field does not only include computer repair. Graduates are prepared to work on a wide variety of electronic equipment, including scopes, cash registers, computer-controlled machinery and computer-controlled robotic equipment.

Where have graduates gone to work?
We have placed our graduates at Computer land, Alcatel, Vertex, Pitney-Bowes, Computers Parts & Upgrades, Kilgore ISD, Dallas County, Gregg County, Complete Business Systems, UT Health Center, KSA Engineers, as well as many other locations.

Who should take computer repair?
If you enjoy the hands-on part of technical work, you will enjoy this field. It is perfect for someone who not only enjoys high tech equipment, but who also loves to dive in and make it work perfectly. Both men and women can do this job equally well and it can be successfully managed by both younger and more mature students. Physically you need good eyesight, good color vision, and should be capable of lifting 40 pounds. Successful students show mechanical aptitude as well as problem solving skills. Students show initiative in starting a project and following it through to the end with an ability to get along well with others. Neatness and organization are a plus. Students can be admitted to the computer repair program by placing at or above the 0306 level in math and English on the Kilgore College entrance test. A background in electronics is not a requirement.

Where are the potential jobs?
The largest number of jobs are located in larger metropolitan areas, the need for electronics techs is growing locally as well. Many of the local computer shops are in need of repair techs. Local electronics manufacturers employ graduates in the assembly and testing areas.

Class size is limited to 15 students to ensure that you will get personal attention from the instructor.

Salary ranges from $8.50 – $22 per hour, depending on experience.

A+ Certification training is included in the program. This is an industry-recognized certification required for hardware maintenance. A+ certification signifies that the certified individual possesses the knowledge and skills essential for a successful entry-level (six months experience) computer service technician, as defined by industry wide experts.
