What do graduates of the program do?
Graduates can install equipment, perform preventive maintenance, correct problems and work on computers, peripheral equipment, and word processing systems. Some service both computer and office equipment. They make cable and wiring connections when installing equipment and work closely with electricians who install the wiring. Repairers run diagnostic programs to locate malfunctions. Although some computers have self-diagnosing capacity that identifies problems, computer repairers must be able to determine if the malfunction is hardware or software.
|
What is the job outlook for graduates?
The need for computer and electronic maintenance techs is growing quickly as the amount of high tech equipment in homes, offices, retail and manufacturing explodes. The development of new computer applications and lower computer prices will also spur the demand. More repairers will be needed to install, maintain, and repair these machines.
Entry-level job applicants may have to pass tests measuring mechanical aptitude, knowledge of electricity or electronics, manual dexterity, and general intelligence.
|
What kind of salary can graduates
expect locally and nationally?
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national median salary for Computer Electronics Maintenance Technology is $31,400. |
How long does it take to complete
the program?
Students have completed the certificate program in as little as two semesters. Students may also earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Network in one additional year beyond the certificate. |
