Advertising & Graphic Design Certificate

Description: The Advertising/Graphic Design program offers both Associate of Applied Science degree, (designed for completion in four semesters), a 30-hour certificate, and a 42-hour webpage design certificate. These programs prepare students for entry-level graphic design careers in all areas of print and broadcast. The curricula cover the essentials of design and production. Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology

Description: This program prepares students as entry-level service technicians in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration fields. Students who graduate from this program can install, maintain, and repair equipment and accessory units for commercial, residential, and industrial usage. Students study the repair of home appliances, such as ice makers, window air conditioners, freezers, and refrigerators.

Automotive Basic

Description: Kilgore offers one the best programs in the nation for serious students interested in a career in automotive repair. KC's NATEF and ASE certified program is the only one of its kind in East Texas and is designed to teach the basic automotive theories and tasks related to all ASE Certification areas. A lecture/lab format gives students hands-on experience. All automotive courses are taught by ASE certified instructors.

Auto Body Repair

Description: Kilgore College offers a very strong NATEF program that covers all aspects of auto body repair and reconstruction including Body-Over-Frame and Unitized-Construction. Emphasis on procedures used in the collision repair industry. This program will provide students with detailed knowledge of both body-over-frame and unitized-construction vehicles. Courses stress on the repair and replacement of damaged sections of automobiles. The facilities are designed with the classroom adjacent to the shop, unifying textbook knowledge with practical experience, resulting in a comprehensively trained student. The instructor has 30+ years in the field and is and I-CAR trained individual with ASE certification in repair and refinishing.

CISCO 21-Hour Certificate

Description: Kilgore College and the Cisco Corporation have partnered together to offer education in networking technologies. The program centers on teaching students to design, build, and maintain computer networks. But the significance goes well beyond that. Using Web technologies, the Cisco Networking Academy Program prepares students for the 21st century workplace and simultaneously serves as a valuable model for successful e-learning. Students majoring in networking technologies will be preparing themselves to become certified. This type of industry-recognized certification could provide graduates with a wide variety of advancements in the networking field.

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Description: KC offers courses to train individuals who are experienced drivers and also those who are new to the field of commercial driving. A variety of courses designed for experienced drivers will be scheduled upon demand, including defensive driving for professional truck drivers. Individuals new to commercial driving receive hands-on driving instruction through the Kilgore College CDL Class A Training Program which is 120 hours and meets for three weeks.  The cost is $3,750.  Classes are scheduled every three weeks. All students must have a Department of Transportation physical and drug screen within thirty days of the beginning of class.  They must take and pass the tests for permits and endorsements at the Longview Department of Public Safety office prior to enrolling in the class. Topics included in the three-week course are State of Texas Class A Commercial Drivers License written exam, truck safety, traffic congestion, general truck driving skills, extreme driving conditions, air brake, hazmat and trailer endorsements. Classroom instruction is approximately three days and the remaining time is behind the wheel of an 18-wheel tractor-trailer.

Corrosion Technology

Description: Corrosion costs the U.S. over $300 billion per year and also produces significant safety, environmental, and financial consequences. Corrosion control is therefore important to company profits and is required by government regulatory agencies. Corrosion technology utilizes chemistry, electricity, physics, metallurgy and other sciences to prevent or control corrosion damage. Careers in Corrosion Control therefore apply these sciences to control the chemical and mechanical aspects that are involved in the deterioration of properties, which we call “Corrosion.” This certificates prepare the student to carry out corrosion work at a technician level that primarily involves collection of data, installations, and minor repairs. It also prepares the student for future certification as a Level I cathodic protection tester. (see latest NACE certification requirements for details.) Certificates include Cathodic Protection Certificate and the Atmospheric Corrosion Certificate.

Cosmetology, Operator

Description: Cosmetology is the art and science of beautifying hair, skin, and nails.
The main goal of the Cosmetology program is to prepare students to pass the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation examination.   The program prepares students to pass both the Texas written and practical examinations. Students receive this preparation through classes and also by actual salon experience through the program's salon facilities and its clientele.

Diesel Technology

Description: The Diesel Technology Program prepares students for positions in the exciting world of diesel truck repair, heavy equipment repair and natural gas compression. Upon enrolling in the program, students are assisted in finding jobs with local companies that allow them to work part-time as a mechanic-in-training while attending KC. Students who graduate from this program can work as a truck technicians, heavy equipment technicians, and natural gas compression technicians. Students may elect to specialize in areas such as building engines or transmissions. The opportunities in this field are limited only by a person's desire and work ethic.

Description: Employment opportunities exist for both women and men. This field prepares graduates for careers as CAD (Computer Aid Design) operators and designers in construction, engineering and manufacturing. Electric Power Technology

Description: KC’s Electric Power Technology Certificate coursework trains job-ready linemen in 10 weeks.  The cost of the 359-hour certificate is approximately $5,000 including tuition, tools and textbooks. Knowledge learned includes electrical principles, transformers, regulators, reclosers, capacitors, customer service, pole climbing, utility truck regulations and safety. Certifications earned include Basic Pole Climbing Skills, First Aid/CPR/AED, Basic Digger/ Derrick & Bucket Truck Operations, Class A CDL, Pole Top & Bucket Rescue, OSHA 30-Hour General Industry. The sequence of coursework begins each spring and fall.  All applicants are pre-screened and must pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug test.

Facial Specialist / Esthetician

Description: Facial Specialist/Estheticians perform treatments of the skin and advise clients on the care of skin.  The Facial Specialist/Esthetician curriculum is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).  Students who complete 750 clock hours are qualified to take the TDLR examination.  Upon successful completion of the state exam, the student will be a licensed Facial Specialist and eligible for job placement.

Industrial Electrical Technology

Description: Kilgore College courses in the Industrial Electricity Technology Certificate prepare individuals for good paying jobs in the manufacturing, industrial and mechanical environments.  Industrial electricians are needed in many settings including manufacturing, warehousing, schools and large-scale retail real estate. KC offers 11 courses in the Industrial Electrical Technology Certificate Marketable Skills Certificate so that students can complete the sequence within 12 months.  The cost of the 356-hour certificate is approximately $3,500 including tuition and textbooks. Graduates are qualified to enter the job market as an apprentice working under the direction of a licensed electrician.  Individuals working in the industrial electrical field can enhance their skills for advancement and pay increases. Skills learned during the course of study include: installing and troubleshooting single and three phase AC and DC motors; computing circuit sizes; feeders and equipment for motors; reading schematics; identifying industrial switches and pilot devices; installing wiring devices and grounding methods; conduit bending; calculating size of conductors, boxes, raceways and fault current.

Legal Assisting

Description: The Legal Assisting program at Kilgore College is fully accredited by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The Legal Assistant curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to work under the general direction of attorneys to assist them in the completion of legal tasks and courts, utility companies, title companies, banks and in government agencies. The program provides knowledge and skills for employment in law firms, courts, utility companies, title companies, trusts and mortgage department of banks, hospitals, governmental agencies and industrial companies.

Nail Technology

Description: A Nail Technician or Manicurist provides care and cosmetic treatment of hands and feet, which focuses on nails.  The Nail Technology curriculum is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).  Students who complete 600 clock hours are qualified to take the TDLR examination.  Upon successful completion of the state exam, the student will be a licensed Manicurist and eligible for job placement.

Vocational Nursing (LVN)

Description: Vocational nursing prepares the graduate to function as a member of the nursing team in performing basic nursing skills. Kilgore College's program is accredited by the Board of Nursing Texas Board of Nursing. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the state examination for licensure. The twelve-month program is taught in three semesters for a total of 47 credit hours. A certificate of completion is issued upon successful completion of the program.

Welding - Intermediate

Description: Welding is the most common way of permanently joining metal parts. Heat is applied to the pieces to be joined, melting and fusing them to form a permanent bond. Because of its strength, welding is used to construct and repair ships, automobiles, spacecraft, and thousands of other manufactured products, and to join beams when constructing bridges, buildings and other structures.

Classtime: One Year for Intermediate Welding Certificate

Starting pay: Starting salaries in East Texas range from about $12 to $15 per hour.  Experienced welders are making $20 locally.
