From time to time the department is in need of part time instructors for non-majors general biology, majors biology, and anatomy and physiology.  This position includes a lecture and a lab or just labs.  Major job requirements include 18 graduate hours in Biology, experience in teaching lab sciences, and a commitment to the philosophy of science labs.

Scholarships
The Biology Department offers three scholarships that are awarded each spring.   Applications are available in the Office of Financial Aid or in the Biology Department.  Completed applications should be returned to the Chairman of the Biology Department by January 31 of each year.  Recipients are recommended by a committee of Kilgore College science faculty.  The criteria vary according to the scholarship.  


The Charles E. and Addie Mae Lloyd Scholarship Award
The Charles E. and Addie Mae Lloyd Scholarship Award may be presented to outstanding sophomore students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology, biology related, or a health related field. The recipient should be committed to follow a four year academic transfer plan. Sample transfer degree plans are available from any biology faculty member or from the counselor’s office.

Applications are available in the Office of Financial Aid or the Biology Department. Completed applications should be returned to Laney Mobley, Chairman, Natural Sciences and Agriculture, Kilgore College Biology Department, 1100 Broadway, Kilgore, Texas, 75662.

Recipients will be recommended by a committee of Kilgore College science faculty using the criteria listed below. Award of the scholarship is discretionary.

Criteria
Each candidate

  • should maintain an overall minimum GPA of 3.0 and have completed a minimum of 40 credit hours.
  • should be a full-time student.
  • should pursue a bachelor's degree in biology, biology related, or a health related field, and plan to transfer to a senior institution to attain a bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields.
  • should have completed at least two Kilgore College biology courses and be enrolled in a third Kilgore College biology course.


This nonrenewable scholarship may be presented in the spring semester for up to $1,000 each. This amount will be credited to the senior institution of the student’s choosing.


The Addie Mae Lloyd Scholarship Award
The Addie Mae Lloyd Scholarship Award may be presented to outstanding freshmen students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in life sciences or health related fields. Recipients should be committed to complete a four year academic transfer plan. Sample transfer degree plans are available from any biology faculty member or from the counselor’s office.

Applications are available in the Office of Financial Aid or in the Biology Department. Completed applications should be returned to Laney Mobley, Chairman, Natural Sciences and Agriculture, Kilgore College Biology Department, 1100 Broadway, Kilgore, Texas, 75662.

Recipients will be recommended by a committee of Kilgore College science faculty using the criteria listed below. Award of the scholarship is discretionary.

Criteria
Each candidate

  • should maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all biology courses.
  • should have completed a minimum of 12 hours but no more than 30 credit hours overall.
  • should be a full-time student with the intention to enroll in Kilgore College for the sophomore year.
  • should pursue a bachelor's degree in life sciences or health related fields and plan to transfer to a senior institution to attain a bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields.
  • should have completed at least one Kilgore College biology course and be enrolled in a second Kilgore College biology course, or have completed two Kilgore College biology courses.


This nonrenewable scholarship may be presented in the spring semester for up to $500 each. This amount will be credited to Kilgore College for up to $250 per semester for tuition, fees, and books during the sophomore year.


The Dr. and Mrs. J. E. Watkins Scholarship Award

The Dr. and Mrs. J. E. Watkins Scholarship Award may be presented to outstanding freshmen, sophomores, or graduating high school seniors who plan to enroll in Kilgore College, and who are pursuing a bachelor's degree in pre-med, biology, or a closely related biology or health science field. Recipients must commit to follow a four year academic transfer plan. Sample transfer degree plans are available from any biology faculty member or from the Kilgore College Counselor’s Office.

Applications are available in the Kilgore College Office of Financial Aid or in the Kilgore College Biology Department. Completed applications should be returned to Laney Mobley, Chairman, Natural Sciences and Agriculture, Kilgore College Biology Department, 1100 Broadway, Kilgore, Texas, 75662.

Recipients will be recommended by a committee of Kilgore College science faculty using the criteria listed below. Award of the scholarship is discretionary.

Criteria
Candidates

  • should be in the upper 25% of their high school graduating class, or have an overall minimum 3.0 GPA as a Kilgore College student.
  • should enroll or be enrolled in Kilgore College as a full-time student.
  • should commit to enroll in Kilgore College biology and chemistry courses that are part of a transfer degree plan or must have completed Kilgore College biology and chemistry courses that are part of a transfer degree plan.
  • should pursue a bachelor's degree in pre-med, biology, or a closely related biology or health science field, and plan to transfer to a senior institution to attain a bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields.
  • must be a resident of Gregg, Panola, Rusk, or Smith County, Texas.


This nonrenewable scholarship may be presented in the spring semester for up to $1,000 each. This amount will be credited to Kilgore College for up to $500 per semester for tuition, fees, and books during the freshman or sophomore year. For graduating sophomores, the award shall be credited to the senior institution of the student’s choosing.
