What do graduates of the program do?
The coursework at Kilgore College provides a portfolio of artwork necessary to apply to a university program in the arts or commercial arts. In Advertising/Graphic Design, we surpass a 90 percent job placement rate required by the state of Texas. Students in this program may enter the job market as a designer in many ways. Some start at local agencies doing print materials, others may start with a corporate art department doing a variety of projects. Web designers may work for any company that needs a professional to manage online content and design. Fine Art majors usually transfer to a four year university to complete a bachelors degree for entering the art education field, or work as studio artist. Some go onto complete a Masters of Arts in preparation for teaching at a college.

Graduates of the two-year program earn an Associate of Art or an Associate of Applied Science Degree.

There are more jobs in this field than most realize. Artists work within the industry in many ways. All fields of industry use artists to create their message when communicating to the public. Education, Advertising, Manufacturing, Publication, Broadcasting, Internet, and many more are using thousands of artists today. In our Advertising/Graphic Design branch of Visual Arts at Kilgore College, we place all exiting sophomores into a local office to work as Graphic Designers. Within the Art Department, students may work in many capacitates before graduating such as Gallery Assistant, Lab Assistant, or Academic Cooperative intern at a local Art Museum. Art majors wishing to transfer to a university to gain a bachelors degree may enter the industry in several ways such as: Art Director, Graphic Designer, Art Educator, Gallery Director, Interior Designer, Illustrator, Publication Designer, Web site Designer, and many more.
